The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) program at Rio Grande Valley College is designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in healthcare. The program typically lasts 12-15 months and combines classroom instruction with extensive clinical experiences. Students learn fundamental nursing principles, including patient assessment, medication administration, wound care, and basic life support. The curriculum covers various specialties such as medical-surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, maternal-newborn nursing, and geriatrics. Clinical rotations provide valuable hands-on experience in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and other healthcare settings. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Passing the NCLEX-PN allows graduates to become licensed LVNs in Texas and pursue entry-level nursing positions in a variety of healthcare settings. Rio Grande Valley College focuses on providing students with the knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment necessary to excel in their nursing careers and contribute to the well-being of patients in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond.
