The Licensed Practical Nursing (LVN) program at Durham Technical Community College is designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in healthcare. This comprehensive program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide basic nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse or physician. The curriculum typically covers a range of topics, including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, maternal-newborn nursing, pediatric nursing, and mental health nursing. Students gain hands-on experience through simulated lab exercises and clinical rotations at various healthcare facilities in the Durham area. Expect the program duration to be about 12-18 months. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Passing this exam leads to licensure and the opportunity to work as a Licensed Practical Nurse in hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, and other healthcare settings. Furthermore, Durham Tech may offer opportunities for advanced standing for those who complete this program and would like to take advantage of a Registered Nurse program.
