The LPN program at Oregon Coast Community College provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become competent and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurses. This program is designed to prepare graduates to provide direct patient care under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians. Coursework typically covers a wide range of topics, including basic nursing principles, medication administration, patient assessment, wound care, and specialized care for diverse patient populations. Students can expect to learn about anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and medical-surgical nursing, as well as maternal-child health and mental health nursing. A significant portion of the program involves hands-on clinical experiences in various healthcare settings, allowing students to apply their knowledge and develop practical skills. While specific program length may vary, most LPN programs can be completed in approximately one to two years. Upon successful completion of the program and passing the NCLEX-PN exam, graduates are eligible for licensure as LPNs and can pursue employment opportunities in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and other healthcare facilities along the Oregon Coast and beyond. Further education opportunities, such as bridging programs to become a Registered Nurse (RN), may also be available to LPNs.
