The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program at Sampson Community College prepares students for a rewarding career in healthcare. This program is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to provide safe and effective nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse or physician. The curriculum typically covers nursing fundamentals, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, maternal-newborn nursing, pediatric nursing, and mental health nursing. Students gain hands-on experience through clinical rotations at local hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare facilities, allowing them to apply classroom learning to real-world situations. Students often practice in a simulation lab to master basic skills. Upon successful completion of the program and passing the NCLEX-PN exam, graduates are eligible to work as Licensed Practical Nurses in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and home healthcare agencies. The LPN role is often a stepping stone for those looking to further their nursing education and pursue an ADN or BSN degree.
