The LPN program at Luna Community College is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and clinical experience necessary to become competent and caring Licensed Practical Nurses. The curriculum typically covers a wide range of essential nursing topics, including anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, maternal-newborn nursing, pediatrics, and geriatrics. Students learn to perform basic nursing procedures, administer medications, assist with patient care, and educate patients and families. The program integrates classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experiences in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, and clinics, providing students with real-world exposure and practical skills development.
A typical LPN program is around one year (12 months) full-time. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Passing the NCLEX-PN allows graduates to obtain their LPN license and begin their nursing careers. LPNs work under the direction of registered nurses or physicians, providing essential patient care and contributing to the overall healthcare team.
