The LPN program at Holmes Community College is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment necessary to provide safe and effective nursing care under the supervision of registered nurses or physicians. The program typically spans 12-18 months and covers a broad spectrum of nursing topics, including anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, maternal-newborn nursing, and mental health nursing. A key component of the program is hands-on clinical experience, which allows students to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world healthcare settings. Graduates of the LPN program will be prepared to administer medications, perform basic nursing procedures, assist with patient assessments, and provide direct patient care in a variety of healthcare settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and home health agencies. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN examination, which is required for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse. The LPN license also opens doors to further education and career advancement opportunities, such as pursuing an LPN-to-RN bridge program to become a Registered Nurse.
