The LVN program at Highland Community College is designed to prepare students for a rewarding career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. The program combines classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory experiences, and real-world clinical rotations to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to provide safe and effective patient care. Students will learn about fundamental nursing concepts, including anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, maternal-newborn nursing, and pediatric nursing. Clinical rotations provide opportunities to apply learned concepts in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics. The curriculum is designed to meet the requirements for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN), the licensing exam for LVNs. Upon successful completion of the program and passing the NCLEX-PN, graduates are eligible to work as entry-level LVNs in a variety of healthcare settings, providing essential nursing care to patients of all ages. Typical LVN programs can take approximately 12-18 months to complete. Graduates can expect to provide direct patient care, administer medications, assist with treatments, and educate patients and their families.
