The Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program at the College of Western Idaho (CWI) prepares students for a rewarding career as a healthcare professional. This program provides a comprehensive curriculum that combines classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory experiences, and supervised clinical rotations. Students learn essential nursing skills, including patient assessment, medication administration, wound care, and vital sign monitoring. The curriculum also covers fundamental nursing concepts, such as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and disease processes. Clinical rotations are a vital component of the program, offering students the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world healthcare settings, like hospitals and long term care facilities throughout the Treasure Valley. Typically lasting around 12-18 months, upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Passing this exam allows graduates to become licensed as LPNs, opening doors to employment opportunities in diverse healthcare settings. Furthermore, articulation agreements may enable graduates to pursue advanced nursing degrees, such as an ADN or BSN, with accelerated pathways.
