Northwest Shoals Community College (NWSCC) is significantly expanding its healthcare education offerings thanks to a $1.3 million grant. In collaboration with North Alabama Medical Center (NAMC), NWSCC is addressing healthcare needs in rural Colbert, Lauderdale, Franklin, and Lawrence Counties. The college will establish a dual enrollment pathway for high school students to begin their journey toward LPN certification, providing an early start to a nursing career. Furthermore, a stand-alone LPN program will be launched at NAMC’s Cloyd Campus, increasing accessibility for aspiring nurses in the region. To meet the evolving demands of the healthcare industry, NWSCC will also create a robust non-credit health studies training center, offering specialized training programs. A highlight of this expansion is the acquisition of a state-of-the-art mobile simulation unit equipped with hospital-like rooms and advanced manikins, bringing hands-on training to rural high schools and long-term care facilities. This initiative aims to boost healthcare education and address critical needs in rural Alabama communities.
